Per the instructions for backing up 3rd party apps, it says to wipe the device - do I have to do that or can I just continue on with the upgrade process as described above?

Much obliged for your help.

Now DM doesn't even detect the device and it's completely stuck on 507.
Any ideas?

Is the battery life and free memory improved over the 4.2 that came installed on the 8310.

That error means no OS is installed. First, reboot your computer. The plug in device>open DM>select Apploader>Add/Remove> and Install the OS. After it's loaded restore from a previous backup.

I am probably missing something. I successfully upgraded my phone (Yay me, since I am not a tech person) and I know it said there should be HTML email but when I open my email it is the same as before. It just shows links. What am I missing?

Old email will not be in HTML format. Select a email icon>menu>option>email settings> Make sure Enable HTML is set to yes. Then log into AT&T BIS page and resend the service books.

It's hard to help you when you don't say what error you received. It could be one of thousands.
