So now after reading about it over and over again I think I understand how to update but do I have to remove the original OS .170 I have on my BB now?? What happens if I dl the 4.5 thats for the tmobile 8320 or a att 4.5 beta??

okay while doing this........it bricked my phone....did the battery die?! now all my phone does is this....blank screen and the led red indicator light keeps flashing and it won't turn on.....

i did not unplug it or anything it says it just lost connection to the phone....what do i do now?

If that red LED flashes and the screen doesnt turn on, the device is hosed and cant be fixed.

You can fix it, just do a few searches on how to recover a dead berry.

There's no timing.. plug the device in, then open the software to update.

That thread is basically about fixing a nuked BB that is throwing up JVM/Java errors.

If the screen wont turn on and the LED flashes red 3 times quickly.. It's a goner.

You can fix it, just do a few searches on how to recover a dead berry.

There's a difference in fixing a bricked blackberry that is throwing up JAVA/JVM errors, than a BB that has a black screen with red flashes.

I'm my company's BB admin.. not a single one of the "blackscreen/red led flashing" blackberry's I've attempted to fix have EVER come back to life, plugging it in with battery in or out, doesnt matter.. If the screen wont turn on, it cant be forced on.

If the device has a JVM/Java error, you'll see a black circle with a line through it with a # inside. Those can be fixed.

( i tried again and again, been at it for 2 hours, thanks rachel. i'm on that page, the part where you have to plug it in and hit next isn't happening. sniffs may be right.... i have an urge to slap myself....are you sure theres no way around it?!!

is for the Curve (8310).

yeah, my friend sold me the curve today cause he got an iphone, i just got this thing and i already screwed it up. i just wanna fix it. is it really gone?! this happened to my pearl and it fixed no sweat.

but it wasn't blank with blinking led's ...
