In brief a battery pull kills all running programs, reloads the OS and in doing so, reclaims all used and unused memory. Try this, go to Options, Status and note the file free number. Now do a battery pull and keep it out for 30 secs. Replace the battery and re-check the file free number - higher, right? That's it really.
