    yesterday i got a text and then instead of saying GSM next to my bars it now says edge..why?

    You really want EDGE. Its the best signal. You can't access internet with just GSM.

    Take the battery out (without turning the phone off)
    for no less than 5 minutes and then put it back.

    And lordcliff is right. You definitely want to see EDGE

    For exploting all your bb funtions you need EDGE, if you see edge is exactly the same of GSM both use only the voice system of your phone an normal text messages
