Default My cameras have gotten slooow...

The other night I put an 8GB microSD card in my BB. Now, when I open the video camera app, it takes at least 10 seconds to open, and about as long to start recording when I hit the button. When I had my old 2GB card in it, starting the app and recording were almost instantaneous. I've noticed the still camera is a little laggy now as well. I've followed all the steps posted elsewhere to free up memory, but it doesn't seem to help. Anyone else notice this? I'm running OS 4.5.0.89.

It could be the larger card and how the BB is reading it. Or as tae said, you might just have a completely different (from the card) issue going on.

Did you just put the card in, or did you format it as well, before adding anything to it?

i copied the content from my old card to the new on then put it in. i just had some pics and vids and my slacker info. i thought maybe that's what was causing the slowdown. maybe i'll try backup/reformat and see if that helps.

The size of the card tends to make a difference. Larger cards can take longer to read, especially if it's a cheaper model.

You can have the video cam default to saving in the device memory so that it loads up quickly, then just manually move the video file to the memory card when you need more space, but then that would probably take longer than just waiting for the video app to load up. But it would help maybe if you needed to take a video right at that moment.

When I upgraded to OS 4.5 the new camera app ran a lil slower than before. But never had it happen swapping a mem card.

that would probably work. my concern is just that...needing to take a pic or video "in the moment", but losing a shot b/c it took too long for the camera to come up.

reformatting the memory card seems to have done the trick. the video camera goes from boot to shooting in under 5 seconds now. thanks all!
