How do I select multiple texts and emails for deletion without having to delete them one at a time?

You can place the cursor on the date bar and press Menu, Delete Prior. This will delete everything on that date and before.

Or you can place the cursor on a message/email, then hold the shift key down and scroll the trackball to highlight a block of messages/emails, then press the Del key.
