I just bought a 2GB MicroSD memory card for my AT&T 8310 Curve as the salesperson at the store told me that's the maximum my phone would take. However, I was told by a friend that she had installed a 4GB in her phone and that I could buy an 8GB for my phone. Does anyone know what the maximum size memory card will work with an AT&T 8310 Curve?

The max size supported is a function of your OS version. Here's a chart:
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
Verizon 4.2.2.196 OS supports up to 8GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 Up to 16 GB

For the full details, see Pete6's microSD Cards thread that's linked in my sig.

I have an 8gb. You have to be running on OS 4.5 for it to support anything higher than 2gb

    i dont think thats correct.
my curve when running 4.3 worked with my 4gig SDHC san disk with no problems, prior to that it was in my Pearl 8130.

that link in JeffH's sig, and his copy paste is correct.

    cheers
