In my first couple of OS upgrades I thought so too. There were
several posts pointing this out and pointing out how little memory
the function recovered, so I just never bothered with it again.
On the 83xx series Memory Cleaning is off by default. On my shiny noo 8900 it is ON by defaut. This seems bassakwards to me since the 8900 has 256Mb of memory against the 8310's 64Mb. Mind you the 8900 seeems to currently bee leaking memory pretty badly but since it has so much, you just watch the numbers and smile.
