LED indicator/ flashing light on BB 8320???
- Hi,
I am not sure if there is a problem with my BB 8320. When I plug it in to charge, the LED indicator has flashes Green just for few times and then does not flash anymore. Is it supposed to be flashing until the phone is fully charged? Where do you go to do the setting for this led indicator? It takes only about one hour to charge and the battery icon displays full but the battery runs out in about 4-6 hours with just minimal usage. I had BB 8310 and it lasts me 4 days or so before I have to charge it. Any suggestion? thanks!02-21-09 05:41 AMLike 0 - Well I just plugged my 8320 into my charger to test it, and NO LEDs lit up at all. Doesn't sound normal. And your battery life is awful.
I think the flashing light is a very low battery warning, and as soon as it starts charging, it stops.
Have you got loads of apps running in the background, draining your battery? If so, remember to shut each one after use by pressing menu button and choosing Close.
You've got an 8320 with wifi - have you got the wifi on constantly? this will really drain the battery quickly. Turn off bluetooth and wifi while you are not using them.
Hope this helps.02-21-09 08:26 AMLike 0 - Thanks for your help. I don't think I have any applications running background. My wi-fi is on all the time I guess. I see on top of the phone's home screen displays "AT&T-Homes101" (Homes101 is the name of my home network. If I am at work, then it also displays the name of my work's network). So basically, I just turn it off whenever not in used, correct? Do I have to go back to set up the wi-fi connection everytime I turn it back on (like entering the WPA code of the network)? Thanks again.02-21-09 08:36 AMLike 0
- I would suggest trying turning off the wifi at least. No need to worry about the WPA etc - the phone will automatically find your wireless network and log in as soon as you turn on the BB's wifi.
I think that maybe dervari's battery performance is better than normal with wifi on continuously, and maybe yours is worse than normal, hence the drastically different results. I certainly don't remember MY battery lasting as long as that when I had wifi on all the time.
See how long a charge lasts with wifi turned off. Then you can better assess the condition of your battery.02-21-09 09:10 AMLike 0 - What OS are you running on the 8320? I am on 4.5.0.124 and leave WiFi on all the time amd it makes no difference to my battery life. I get about 36hrs froma charge with moderate to heavy use and the phone is now 15months old. OS level makes the biggest difference on battery usage with WiFi and BT on. I have used level that would suck the battery dry in 6hrs.......

The sticky thread at the top of this Curve forum for the 8320 contains a link for the .124 OS download in the first post. There are also some basic guidelines included. Here it is:

A more in-depth and thorough (as it includes wiping your blackberry) process is to be found here:

- this is the one I first used, and it worked.
Another benefit I gained from upgrading from .81 to .124 was an increase in file free memory of about 6 megabytes, so definitely upgrade I would say.Last edited by davoid; 02-21-09 at 10:32 AM.
02-21-09 10:29 AMLike 0 - Following your guys' help, I upgraded my BB 8320 to V 4.5.0.124 from V4.5.0.81. At the end, it stated that the upgrade was successful. However, now the LED indicator keep on flashing RED. Now I also see the yellow and red envelope icon on the top right corner under the WI-FI icon. I looks like I have a message but I do not have the data plan. So what is the problem with the red flashing light? and how do I get rid of that envelope icon? Thanks again.02-22-09 07:52 PMLike 0
