LOl. Ok I have something that has been bothering me. I do not have any service books installed and there is nothing there in the host routing table. I do not have a browser icon. I had it before and did something to the phone and lost it.
Nothing I do will make the browser come back or anything.
Under Mobile Network it shows data services on
Under Services status it shows BIS/BES not connected and I have 1xev in lower case letters.
I do have a data plan but whatever I did to the phone a few days ago i lost it.
I've tried to re-register under host routing table it just says registration message sent and never does anything
Under service books there is nothing listed there for anything.
Ok just checked and there are some service books on there now but nothing to do with the browser or anything.
I would have thought that This upgrade to OS 5.0 would have put the Browser back on the phone. - 02-02-2010, 10:14 AM #103
Ok so here is my problem. After I loaded 5.0 I noticed that all my sms,mms and emails were all seperated. I went into the messages icon, Hit menu key-Options-general options, scrolled down to where it is suppose to say "SMS and Email Inboxes" and its not there. I can not combined them or keep them theme controlled. Nothing. Anyone else have this problem or just me? If it was just me then I'll do a reinstall and try to get it working.

I don't see that on my 5.0, when I am in the message list, menu, options,Inbox Settings
There I have a list of email accounts to be included in the main message inbox, below is "Other Message Types" with the option to include or exclude SMS and MMS from the main inbox. - 02-03-2010, 08:14 AM #108
Followup on the GPS issue. Okay, so I installed OS5, and after that, the GPS wasn't working. I kept it on for a couple of days, but it was kind of a dealbreaker for me, so I went back to .175. GPS still didn't work. Then, a couple days later, it started working again. Not sure what changed, I don't think I did anything, so maybe it was something funny from Bell or something. Yesterday I re-installed the Boost 5.0, and lo and behold, GPS is working again! So, that GPS stuff seems like a red herring.
For the folks who said "8330 GPS is crap", I'll just give you a tip. My experience is that the GPS works great _unless_ you're plugged into a charger. I think lots of people plug their BB's in when they get into the car, but this seems to play havoc with the GPS reception. It works, but it's really flaky, reception goes in and out, and often you can't get a lock at all. Must be the noise on the line. (and I've got a genuine RIM car charger) This is my experience, maybe you'll find the same thing.
Anyway, 5.0 is up and running, seem to have the apps I need, though definitely took a big hit on availble memory, so I needed to reprioritize things and simplify... - 02-03-2010, 08:37 AM #109

Almost guaranteed, you have an 8330m, and this OS is for ESN devices only.

Could be one of several things then. DM 4.6 is what I use, and 4.7/5.0 can give you problems. Either by installing a ghost copy of vendor, or because of your internet being connected. Could need to uninstall 230 to get it to work. Finally, it may take a full wipe to get the OS to install.

That's where most people get confused. Loader is part of DM, so which DM you have installed makes a difference. Remove anything programwise on your PC through control panel, add/rermove programs.

Oh sorry, about the changes. You'll have to read through the thread. Never owned an 8330, but I would expect more file free and speed. There won't be any visual changes I'm sure.

oh i see i never knew that. d'oh!
i have DM 5.0 so i'll try downgrading that i guess. one quick last question: if i back up my phone before wiping it will my bbm contacts still be there? it would be such a pain in the *** to have to re-add everyone. (happened when upgrading to bbm 5.0 back when it was leaked... not looking forward to that again!)5.0.0.230 - 02-03-2010, 09:29 AM

The back up should cover it, but a BBM rremote back uo being enabled I always advise.

Okay, so I've had this update loaded for a while now (couple of weeks). I'm probably going to downgrade the OS until I can afford to upgrade my phone.
1. My browser sessions are significantly slower now. Crackberry forums used to pop up and now it takes sometimes 45-60 seconds to open the main mobile page from my launcher.
2. The GPS fix posted earlier did not work for me. Not exactly a deal-breaker, but definitely a hassle when I want to use it to travel to one of my daughter's wrestling meets and use the bbmaps app to get me there.
3. I have a SIGNIFICANT memory leak that I can't seem to pin down. I have to re-boot it twice to actually clear the memory. It'll start off at ~23 MB and be down to 14-16 within a couple of hours of light usage.
4. Doesn't get me anything more in the way of usable apps. I can't use really cool themes and my stalwarts (UT, I love my Blackberry, Olivetree biblereader) won't leave a lot of room for much else. And while things may say "OS 5.0 ready" I don't think that meant for the 8330 Curve. No wonder RIM dropped it from the list of devices which would be receiving an upgrade.
All in all, I'm still a happy blackberry user. I'm willing to put up with this for the sake of waiting on the Essex or something better (Storm 3 anyone?). These are my own results on my VZW branded Curve. I can't verify anyone else's results, positive or negative. I'm still willing to play around with it this weekend and see if I can make it fit, but I'm not holding my breath.

Loaded 5.0 and found it to be MUCH slower, no GPS and my favorite 3rd party Today Themes do not navigate the same anymore (scrolling up and down on the home screen is totally screwed up)....I've reverted back to 4.5.0.175.

after I installed OS 5 I saw GPS and browser weren't working but after I resent the service books to my phone they both work much better. Does have a large mem leak but it still seems to be much faster overall also it should have a working version of BBM to install by DM if not I'm pretty sure it can be downloaded from app world I think they're the same version

My memory leak is so bad with this, I'm suddenly doing a battery pull about 5x per day. Oddly though, I am sometimes able to run smoothly with 0 Bytes (yes, ZERO) free. Also can't use custom themes or change the wallpaper.
Considering going back to 4.5.0.175, but I really like some of the features with 5.0.
That and I'm probably switching to Android in the Spring, so hopefully I can just deal with it until then.AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9800 (work)

I am having the same memory leak issue. Today my phone rebooted on its own in fact. I have to do a battery pull 2-3 times a day. I think i will try one of the hybrids.
