I just completed my upgrade to 4.5 on my 8310. Everything works great but I have a few questions:
    1. With 4.2 I was able to create custom folders with custom icons. Now I can only create folders with the standard folder icon. Is there any way to get back the ability to set custom icons for folders?
    2. I was under the impression that 4.5 used HTML email. It doesn't seem to be the same as when I was using Empower on the 4.2 OS. Is there a way to enable HTML email without having to utilize a 3rd party software?
    3. Are there any other features that come with 4.5 that I'm not aware of?

    Thanks.

    Not sure about #1

#2 resend your service books. Options, Advanced Options>Host Routing Table> Menu>Register Now.

#3 The new version will give you HTML mail and Docs To Go.

OK, I solved the HTML issue and I even figured out how to install Docs to Go. However, in the process I noticed that there is additional software that I haven't installed. Can anyone tell me if the following is worth installing:
    1. Blackberry Maps (I already use Google Maps)
    2. Blackberry MDS Runtime (what is this)
    3. Blackberry S/MIME Support Package (what is this)
    4. DOD Root Certificates (what is this)

    Thanks

    Hey
Yeh but im selling the bold as i am happy with my curve, got it on a free upgrade but decided to stick with what i know.
The Bold has toooo many issues for me at the moment.

Do i need to download " orange " specific OS upgrade for the curve?

I dont know where id get it!

You do not need to downlaod an Orange specific OS . You can use any carrier's OS as long as it is the right one for your device , you would just need to make sure you delete the vendor file.

This gives instructions on how to upgrade. Having said that there is no need to jump in and upgrade. I would certainly advocate being confident with the procedure and device before going ahead.

I do not understand dumping the Bold so soon. Are you saying there are problems with it?

Just realized you already have the OS. There isn't anything else you'll need from Orange, as GM said

There are major problems with Orange 3G anyway.
Call dropping, signal loss, browsing problems and such.

Is a beautiful phone, it has bells and whistles all over the place but if it seems to mess up on simple things then whats the point, ive also read about it crashing alot, turning off, when it loses signal not being able to find it again.
I assume it is a software problem that i think should have been fixed pre-release, especially since Orange say " we spend weeks testing before release of any phone "

    hmmm.

That's your problem , any exsisting mail that's already been delivered to your box pre 4.5 will not show the html no matter what you do. Be patient , they'll come to ya.

    Thanx for the help

I did consider the possibility that I would have to wait till I got a new email for sure, but it didnt make sense as it's the OS that reads the script.

    As to the email settings...
This was the first thing I looked for when I got 4.5 OS
Maybe it's me, but I cannot find anything close to "enable html" or "auto images" under email settings.

What I have under email settings is:
    Message Services
    Confirm Delivery
    Confirm Read
    Send Read Receipts

I cannot find one single menu item that is even close to mentioning html

Well its not only the OS that has to read it , its also what gets pushed through the BlackBerry server. Once you run 4.5 and enable html your mail is pushed through BIS 2.5 which is what give you html email.

Just open your "messages" folder from your home screen and the its the path I gave you.

Don't forget to enable it for each of your email domains that you wish to push html.

Also even though you check the auto download images you still have to hit menu/getimages on each piece of mail you want to see the images on(security feature and PITA). It will say "this will reveal your address atr you sure" tell it yes and Viola! Images
