Looking on the web, unlocking an O2 BB Curve remotely costs up to $120 with the lowest being $56. Why? And why does it take up to 12 days for goodness sake?
Anyone throw any light or tell me somewhere reliable but cheaper?
    Thanks
    Doug

What are the benifits to have your phone unlocked aside from using a sim card from different carriers?

People buy phones from other networks. They have more resale value afterwards. hence the predicament that Doug is in.

    Good News on the code.

The BB comes with standard 4 -5 themes. Each Service Provider has their own theme (as expected)...but some of them are very good and they are the ones that you want to unlock....

I could talk you through this....

But you need Desktop Manger 4.2 installed and then also we need to find out the OS you have.

from the Home Screen - hold down ALT + CAPS + H = Help Me Screen. You will see the App Version & Platform

Hi Tom. Will do this but tomorrow when I am not so tired. Thanks for the offer, will take you up on this. Desktop manager is installed already and it syncs okay.
    Goodnight,

What I don't understand is if someone pays the money to unlock the phone, then why not share the unlock code or secret? This way, everyone can benefit?

Well, for one, it doesn't work that way. Each phone has an unlock code specific to its IMEI.

Secondly, that would be stealing... something we will not tolerate here.

    Thanks.

Thats looks like the standard OS.

I sent you the link to the Optus OS, i think its the most stable, but maybe just get used to the BB first. New OS's are always coming up

Thanks, I'll download it ready to use. Bought 3 screen protectors from ebay. The USA ones cost more to post than to buy!
Thanks for your help, Tom. I've sent the unlocking guy an email.

i know you've already gotten your phone unlocked, but just for anyone else out there that wants to do this they can. i'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but if u have or a friend of urs has at&t, u can call the customer service and tell them that ur moving overseas and u need ur phone unlocked. i did this twice before i moved to dubai bc i lost my blackberry once but as long as u have an account at at&t to call from they should give u the unlock codes right there or in a couple days.
