With the "Dial From Home Screen" turned off, is there a way to assign applications/tools to specific keys. For instance, the Q key has no assignment - how would I assign SMS/MMS messages to that key?

For those who don't already know about these assignments, see quote from another thread below (I can't remember who the original poster was, sorry for not giving proper credit):

For the Curve (I have 8330) if you turn off Dial From Home Screen, the following are keyboard shortcuts for applications:

    Q - Unassigned
    W - Unassigned
    E - Unassigned
    R - Alarm
    T - Tasks
    Y - Unassigned
    U - Calculator
    I - Unassigned
    O - Options
    P - Unassigned
    A - Address Book
    S - Search
    D - MemoPad
    F - Profiles
    G - Unassigned
    H - Help
    J - Unassigned
    K - Keypad Lock
    L - Calendar
    X - Windows Live Messenger
C - Appears to Be the Call from Address Book Screen incl. Use Once option
    V - Saved Messages
    B - Browser
    N - Blackberry Messenger
    M - Messages
    0 and $ are unassigned.

There are 10 unassigned options (on my keypad at least)

If anyone knows how to manually assign to other applications ie. camera, please share if possible.

Weeeelllll if you wanted to, you could set your left or right convenience key to open SMS/MMS...?

    Options > Screen/Keyboard

    Buuuuut maybe not.

Yeah, you can. My right convenience key opens up my SMS/MMS folder and my left opens QuickLaunch (which by the way has its own shortcut keys). I also installed QuickSMS which runs in the background and lets you push the letter Q to compose an SMS message.

That's the best you can do with BB.

If you create a your own theme, using composer you can set custom keys for shortcuts to apps.
