Does anyone know how to unblock the internal gps so I dont have to pay $10 a month for VZN?
If you've updated your device to 4.5 then you are able to use BBMaps with gps capability. The gps chip in the 8330 doesn't work with 3rd party apps. You can get a gps puck keychain if you must have gps for 3rd party apps here in the store.
If you are running the version that came on the phone (4.5.0.127 I think) you should be able to upgrade to .138 and unlock the GPS. I did just that on my Alltel 8330 but I'm not sure about Verison.
Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have 4.5.0.77 and I'm not sure if I can use GPS or not. When I go to the GPS screen there are 2 rows:
1) GPS Data service, which only option is Device GPS
2) GPS Services: 911 Only (default), and an option for Location On
Is this the right screen to enable to GPS, and if so should I change it from 911 to Location on? Thanks.

However, since you are with Verizon and have an 8330, you will be limited to BB Maps or VZ Nav.
