I had something similiar happen today with the missed call icon on my new Curve that would not go away. I did a lot of trouble shooting and nothing worked. I am also no newbie so lack of knowledge was not the problem. I ended up calling my carrier and having them connect me with RIM. After they asked me the a series of questions about "did I do this and did I do that" to try and fix, we came up with the solution to just back up my BB via desktop manager and then wipe the device. It finally went away after that. Then I restored my BB after that. That may be your solution but you can always call AT&T first and have them connect you to RIM.
Wiping the device should be a last resort tho. Well, it is for me. If you've already tried everything that was suggested then maybe you should, & Make sure to back up.

It was a last resort for me too but even RIM agreed that it was finally time to do it as nothing else worked. And yes, backup the device first if you decide to wipe!
O'tay... Da' best way 2 FiX dis problem is 2...
1. Turn ur Fone Off.
2. Call ur CellFone from a landline, leave UrSelf a NEW Voice Message.
3. Wait 5mins or so.
4. Turn ur fone back On, & listen to New Message. Delete~It.
Da' Issue is NoMore... :-)
