Go to your address book > go to contact > press trackball >
press menu and select Copy to Sim Phone Book >
press menu again and select save.
You cannot do this en masse, only one at a time.
Anyway to auto save them to the sim? I looked but couldn't find a way. I know some phones you can
To the best of my knowledge (as spotty as it may be :) ) the way I
detailed is the only way.
Will there be a way to do this with Blackberry 9700? (in the phone)
and why does RIM never add this very important feature to their OS???
Probably not, and because it's not important at all. You can back them up with DM and sync them with your computer apps, you can sync them with Google Sync, etc.
A SIM card entry can only contain a name and a number. There's no support for email addresses, PINs, chat client names, physical addresses, birthdates, etc. Plus there's not much storage space on a SIM card. As far as contact storage goes, it's very dated technology.
There are so many ways to keep your contacts with you or stored on-line and move/copy them onto new devices, I truly think this is not something RIM "overlooked" but more likely something they've deemed unnecessary.
This is something that gets asked a lot though, so I can't say you're alone in wanting the feature, but can you give a reason why it would be preferable to store incomplete contacts on your tiny SIM card rather than use Google Sync or Desktop Manager and keep complete contact entries backed up wherever you go?
I am wanting to get my Blackberry Bold 9000 contacts over to a new Samsung Impressions phone for my husband. Any ideas how to accomplish that without copying one by one to the sim card? I have them backed up to my Desktop Manager. Any way to get them from there to the Samsung?
Thanks!
If you can't put all the info on the MC then why allow a 16 GB card. I have 1600 contacts and run my own consulting bus from home and need all the info on road.
Are you sure I can do this in mass?
I struggled for half a day to export my contacts. It was mostly due to having 2 contact lists, but only one would synch. Some of the solutions to export the contacts only worked for one of the lists. In the end I bought a 99 cent application on Blackberry App store called "contact backup". It created a VCARD file on the SD card that can be uploaded into gmail, and then you can sync your new device with that. You do need a SD card - It wouldn't create the file without it. (Actually created 2 for me - probably because I had 2 contact lists, although one file had all the contacts.) You can then connect the BB to the computer through the USB (or any sim card reader) and then just copy the file to your computer for upload to gmail or another device software.
