- So I'm starting to experience the "hourglass of death", where that annoying hourglass comes up and the phone pretty much locks. It happens almost daily at some point, and goes on for anywhere between 10 seconds and 1 minute. I'm currently running 4.5.069, and I do have some downloaded apps although not an obscene amount.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to how I can maximize performance to either eliminate the hourglass or at least to make it appear less frequently? Also preferably without having to reinstall the OS
Thanks in advance.08-28-08 12:40 PMLike 0 - First, the hourglass is not the same as Windows Blue Screen of Death. It is more like the busy cursor, it will return.
First thing to check is your memory. Options / Status, file free memory is the third line down.
If it is under 12 Mb, that would explain the frequent appearance of the hourglass. It is doing all it can to recover memory.
After you check your memory, pull and replace the battery. Check it again. Odds are good it will be in the 14-16 Mb range, pretty well out of the box condition.
If that is the case, check out CrackMem, it is the best way to free up memory.

Can a MOD please merge these threads? I've PM'ed one already but he may be a bit busy.08-28-08 01:26 PMLike 0 - Try a battery pull and you may also want to get rid of any 3rd party apps... sometimes this can cause problems on your BB...However if it is only doing this for a relatively short period of time it shouldnt be a huge problem....When it is on your screen for hours then you have a major problem.08-28-08 01:55 PMLike 0
- Thank you everyone for the tips. First thing I did was a battery pull and that seems to have done the trick (for now?)...not one hourglass since. I guess I hadn't done a battery pull for a while. I'm hoping this will do the trick so that I'm not forced to delete my beloved Viigo
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-29-08 09:01 AMLike 0 - ive had the same issue, and my verizon rep replaced the phone for me after a week of having it. a week later with my new phone, now have the same problem. it seems to get worse as time goes on, i deleted the facebook app and reinstalled it and this seems to have fixed it for the time being. it gets very annoying and problematic because the batter drains faster for me when this hourglass pops up08-29-08 02:40 PMLike 0
