Hoping someone can help me - reaching a new level of frustration.
I can't open attachments from my BB (Curve 8310, OS 4.2.2.170).

When I receive a msg w/ attachments, I can see they are there, but when I open the menu, the Open Attachment isn't an option.

However, when I send myself an email and attach a file to it, then everything is fine. I also notice that on the msg screen, the "good" message has a paper clip on the envelope icon, whereas the messages that have attachments which I can see but can't open don't have the paperclip...

I have tried the battery, new service books, making sure the application is there (it is: BB Attachment Service 4.2.2), deleting and reinstalling the attachment service, etc.

Have seen a few threads relating to Empower and am wondering if this is my problem somehow. (Empower mailviewer 3.0.66.7)

Anybody have any suggestions??

BTW, ATT is my provider if that is meaningful...

Is this one specific individual that is sending emails with unviewable attachments, or several different ones?

It seems to be ALL messages, except those sent to myself from the BB.

So far, the files have been .gif .pdf and .jpg
I'll try another test msg from my laptop with a .doc or something...

That's very odd. You should be able to open those with no issue at all.

Has this been an issue since day one, or one that just arose? Have you talked to your carrier?

OK this is really weird!
I sent the .doc file and it opened.
I tried again with the same account combination (from the laptop yahoo account, to the gmail account (both are also set up on BB)) this time with a .jpg file and it worked again.
But the same combination (from yahoo on the laptop to the gmail on the BB) with a .jpg DIDN'T work at 2:19....

OK the plots thickens...
I was thinking that I didn't test AFTER all of that updating/reinstalling/battery stuff that I did earlier, but now i'm not so sure.
I'm suspicious that the updating,etc. only fixed my personal accounts and not my work mail...
I'll do a little more testing - please stay tuned!!

From yahoo/laptop to work/BB - OK
From gmail/laptop to work/BB - didn't work
From gmail/laptop to work/BB again - OK

eureka - I think i've figured it out!!

the only time post-reinstalling,etc. that it didn't work was a weird .csv file (an old chat log it looked like...)

I think all is well again in my crackberry world - thank you!!!!!!!

I seem to be having the same problem. My phone is the curve 8300 and when i attempt to send myself ringtones from crackberry, the url is not underlined and i can't retrieve the ringtone. Does anyone know how to fix this. It's like this with every email as well, not just the ones from crackberry....maybe this is something i should call the provider about

I would definitely recommend you phone your provider regarding your issue.

What's the file extension? Any type of word document cannot be viewed without one of the newer OS's.

can i download a newer os from crackberry....that might be the issue. i got this phone from a friend who switched providers. of course i called att and they said they cant help cause its a third party site.

You can download a new os, but you will want to do your homework before doing so.

I am having the same problem taylor... and it is driving me up the wall as well! all I want is to be able to open my new free ringtones! ugh..
