I bought a bad ESN phone off of craigslist, phone looks brand new and has no problems. The only thing is I cant activate it. Is it possible to buy a broken phone off of ebay and swap out the parts from the working phone? Like just swap the part that holds the ESN ?

There's not a "part" that holds the ESN. Its embedded in the firmware of the device. You should ALWAYS call VZW to verify a ESN before buying the phone. You are now the proud owner of a BlackBerry paperweight.

How do you know the ESN is bad? Maybe there's something else making you unable to activate it. Did you call your carrier?
