Hello Welcome to CrackBerry!
8330 was my first BB as well.

About the FB notification, you will have to go to your the messaged section of the FB app and open all the messages one by one.
Make sure it loads all the way and at some point the icon will disappear.

You can free up memory by deleting languages when you reinstall the OS. There are also some hybrids out there that make it even smaller.
For example My 8330 used to have 40-50 Mb on a Hybrid.
