so when i loaded my gmail into my new bb it shows messages i get but it doesnt show any of the emails that are on my email already like the read ones any ideas

This will only send over new mails from you got it set up. Will not bring over old mail

This is correct... it will not bring over old emails... also depending on how you have it setup it will remove old emails from your BB after a specified number of days... the 8900 will keep them up to 6 months, but I can't remember what the 83xx series keeps them for.
