I've been a Palm user for a long time now, and I'm used to a touchscreen and the 5way navigator, which is quite similar to the trackball, but the trackball on the 8330 was really hard to get used to when playing with it in the store. I use the 5way navigator most of the time so I'm not touchscreen dependant. So I'm curious, especially if you came from a touchscreen device, How easy was it to get used to the trackball?
I'm sure it works as it should, but from what I've seen it's a quite different form of navigation compared to every other phone I've seen. Just curious as to personal opinions on how easy it is to get used to.
I picked out the phone and it felt right to me. There is some adjustments that u can do to the trackball to adjust the sensitivity to your liking. But the trackball is very similar to a mouse so I found it easy to use.
the only thing I did was forget it wasn't a touchscreen device for a while. I'm so used to it now that if I need to use a touchscreen it feels foreign and like such a wasted motion.
Thanks for the quick feedback. Also nice to know it has a sensitivity feature. Also the one in the store I imagine took a beating from constantly being played with as most demo products do. It just seems odd, at least to me, that such a powerful device is confined to being controlled by a simple little ball.
And I have to say this is quite a community crackberry has going here. I've gotten tons of replies to my few questions here, and only 2 on the voyager forums, and on top of that they were pretty much irrelevant to my questions.
I think it is the best form of mobile input TO DATE! I got used to it almost instantly, and now I have full command over it - I can scroll really quickly, and still stop on the exact e-mail I want. I've also gotten used to the sensitivity differences pushing down on the trackball (which I haven't really seen documented anywhere - using little force, it seems to move quicker with less precision, putting more force causes it to move slower, but more precisely).
I just wish that RIM would carry the mouse pointer over to the rest of the OS. It's a little odd navigating the BB menus as if there was a mouse, but with no pointer on the screen.
i love the bb.. i have opera downloaded, and it uses the 2,4,6,8 keys for scrolling which makes it a breeze!! CRACKBERRY FTW!
Really? wow I didnt know that you can use those shortcuts in Opera. One of my only complaints was that i hated using the trackball to scroll up and down in Opera. It took forever. This makes it much easier. I love this site.
The trackball was hard at first to get used to because I came from a q9c and ace which both had the side scroll. I found myself doing the same thing on the curve. lol
I have been pleasently surprised with the trackball. I didn't expect to be as impressed as I have been with it. It has taken a bit of getting accustomed to coming from a DPad for so long, but not as long as I expected.
I had never had a BB before so it took a little bit of time. Minutes. I keep the sensitivity at 70. I know that's slow to some, but I find it to be comfortable.
