After messing around with the settings I saw firewall settings. What's everyones view. Keep the firewall on or off?

turning it on protects you against people hacking your device, ala paris hilton's sidekick. does hurt to have on and can turn on/off at will and reset settings if block something to get working again. I have mine on

Firewalls are alike condoms. Most of the time the you don't need one, but that one time you did, you will be glad you were jumping with a chute.

Mine is ON and has stopped 29 inbound SMS messages. I don't have an SMS plan, so this spam would have cost me (no one I know texts me).

Last week I wasn't receiving email, but everything else was working fine. After several hours of investigation I discovered the firewall had blocked 26 BIS items. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, why does it happen?

Blocking inbound SMS is a separate setting from enabling the firewall. Same screen, different function.

I agree with the condom analogy. I also recently enabled my (previously considered 'annoying') device password for the same basic reason.

I have a Pearl 8130 with Sprint. In addition, I purchased the BB Smart Email viewer. Unfortunately, when I test the connection with the "BES" setting iI get a failure message. Tech support at BB Smart suggested I try turning off the firewall on the phone but when I go into the firewall selection on the phone I can't get the the thing to turn off. I see a little red lock next to firewall, but it will not let me change it. Any help would be greatly apprecciated.

I'm not a BES user or admin, but this sounds like a setting that your BES Admin controls and you won't be able to modify.
