If I'm not mistaken, the device is the same. Its just minor OS changes, "m" for "multilingual" (again, not 100% sure).

Um, no the "M" doesn't stand for "multilingual".
RIM ran out of ESNs so they switched to MEIDs. That's what the "M" stands for.
There's no hardware difference but they do have separate OS versions. And they thus they do handle MMS differently.
