Default A few quick questions from a newbie.

Hi my names Bill and yea I'm a newbie. Just picked up a BB Curve 8320 with v4.5.0.182 (platform 2.7.0.106) .
I don't know jack about these Black Berry phones and am wanting to learn. Don't think mines "unlocked" and it's branded att. My sim card from my Atrix 2 allows it to recieve calls but haven't gone any further than that as yet. I do at this time have a donated go-phone sim card installed because the BB kept asking for one. The card is not active and was a freebie from a friend at radio shack, one of their throw aways.
At this time untill I learn the basics as well as I can I would rather not activate it. Just kind of fiddle around with the functions.
I have gotten it to find and connect with home wifi. However as I expected not actually be able to access the internet and browse. Probably due to no data plan thru installed sim card.
I was hopeing at least to use this 8320 to view pdf files of the shop manuals I use at work. View and take decent pix and what ever else I might be able to do without activating a data plan. Can any of these things be done with out a sim card or data plan?
If so how and what all can be done with and too a BB without data plan or even sim card? Any direction is appreciated by this old tech junkie.

Hey Bill. I will try to answer some of your questions as best I can and hope it's helpful. There isn't a lot that you will be able to do without a data plan as BlackBerry's are designed for communication. Pdf files are usually only viewable as an email attachment unless you have the full version of Documents To Go installed which allows viewing of pdf files that have been saved to the device. If you don't have it, its available in app world but the you will need a data plan to get it.

I am not sure about needing a data plan to connect through wifi because I have an 8330 that doesn't have wifi, so someone else with your model may be able to answer that.

With the sim installed you can make calls and probably text but that's pretty much all you will be able to do. You won't be able to use most apps, blackberry messenger, instant message clients, email , facebook, etc. without the data plan, although again I am not sure what will be usable over wifi.

I hope this has helped some.
