im running a 4.2.2 OS on a 8310 curve
whats the difference between new OS's such as a 4.5 and a 4.2?
are there any ways that i can upgrade to a higher OS and where can i upgrade?

You will get HTML email, video capabilities as well as bug fixes to name a few. If you feel comfortable after reading how to do it, go for it......If not there is no harm in waiting a little while until you get familiar with the BB a little more

if i download a new OS do i also have to download a new desktop software, like version 4.6?

is that the same thing as the desktop manager?

That is correct...... You will need DM (Desktop Manager) and I recommend v4.6 without media manager......

Your better off with 4.6 - DM 4.7 is more suited for the Storm, it will work on the curve but its buggy. Personal experience as well as 100's of others..... Good luck

i downloaded DM 4.6 w/o media manager
but it wont let me sync music now.
an error box comes up that says please run the DM with administrative privileges.

any help suggestions? :]

Did you have one installed before with Media Manager? If you did feel free to get 4.6 with media manager. I personally dont use it. I just plug in and drag and drop my files to the BB though windows explorer. Just treat it like you would a flash drive etc. If you wish to keep what you have and if you have a media card you can enable mass storage mode in options>media card>mass storage mode support ON then it will work fine. If you like Roxio you can get the version of DM that includes it....
