my gosh, the top part of my curve peeled after 3mo of moderate use. is this all black after the peel? and does the side rails (black material lining the side) peel as well?

am thinking of peeling the top part completely though... it just does not look good my curve is loosing its shine

Same thing is happening to my 8310 I've had for 8 months. Just the top - sides are ok.

really do not know, i would suggest RIM should shy away from this kind of finishings... either use the real thing instead. it really ruins fast anyones investment; and it depreciates its products faster...

Hmm..
I started using a skin on mine a couple of weeks after I got it.
So maybe that saved it.

Do you use a skin or some kind of covering?

I took all the rubber coating off the top rail and it's gloss black now. I'm considering doing it to the sides so they match.

have much to worry about. Well except for the side rails

Go with the BSE, same material, protects the same,
almost 3 times less expensive.

my top started peeling so i cleaned it all off and its just shiny, its no big deal(same stuff as my VW's soft touch, dumb garbage that peels)

I think the sides are all one piece, some kind of rubber or flexible plastic, I dont think it will peel

My 8310 peeled at the top in the center due to the clip holster I have rubbing on it everytime it gets pulled out or put away. The sides still look great after 8 months!!

The top on my 8300 peeled and so has my 8310. Once it started peeling I just peeled it all off and its gloss black now.

When you say peel, do you mean the black stuff entirely, or the clear coating on top of it?

Side of my 8310 is fine, well except few marks from when I dropped it, but the top is peeling off around the standby button. This happened with my 8300 as well.

hmm this is strange because i sleep with my phone next to me, and it drops a lot and i'm pretty clumsy with it (even got the insurance) but nothing has yet to peel!

agree, expensive toy but somehow weak finishings... RIM should do something about this. For the others, who have not yet... it is only a matter of time lol
