I was using mine till last month on 4.5. That's the latest one my carrier (Sprint) approved. I just go with what my carrier supplies, but many other people install newer versions approved by carriers other than their own and even hybrid and beta OS versions. With OS5, I just figured if it could work well on my device, my carrier would have approved it. I suppose others have had good luck installing OS5 on 8330's, and I'm aware that there's a good chance my reasoning on this is wrong, but that's just my preference.

Good info. I had doubts about my Sprint version of the 8330, because it had that "m" after the 8330. Then again, I also think I remember reading here somewhere that the "m" wasn't in fact anything that made my 8330 inferior.

The 8330 used a different ESN format, which they ran out of numbers. With the 8330m, they changed to MEID format, which gave them the capability to register more phones.

I was thinking that the carrier who came out with 5.0 was only for the 8330 version, not the 8330m.

the 5.0 works just fine for any carrier, just delete the vendor.xml file. The only reason that there isn't a version for each carrier is that the major carriers stopped spending money on this phone

OS5 works just fine on any carrier as long as you don't have the 8330m.
