I'm going to discountinue my data plan for a while. I find myself not using it at all. I would still like to be able to access google maps and amazegps when needed. Will i get charged for using these apps if i don't have a data plan?

Yes. EVERY gps app uses data. Just pay for like a 5mb data service.
