I am replacing my world edition with a curve and the switch device keeps giving the error "fatal error" when I hit the last step which is putting the settings on the new device.
After a lot of tie spent, it appears that the new phone is not recognized by the desktop manager (as being connected) My computer does recognize the media card installed in the new device though.
Is it possible the port is just turned off somehow?
I chose detect port and reduced the connection speed and neither made a difference and the device was still not found.
I just reloaded desktop manager and it still does not work?
I'm betting this is something obvious that i'm overlooking
Any ideas would be appreciated!
DM - Desktop Manager is completely separate and different from
the OS - Operating System
You can download your OS here. Have the file save to your
desktop so it is easier to find. When the d/load is complete
double click the icon on your desktop and let the file install.
When that is done try running the device switch wizard again.
One more thing to try. On your PC- Go into Control Panel > System >Device Manager. If the BB is listed in the USB ports with an error(! Exclamation point) uninstall the device and then right click and have windows scan for hardware changes. It will detect the BB and then DM will recognize your device.

One thing to remember is that the USB drivers can be easily corrupted - perhaps just the one for your Curve. The solution is to download and install new drivers, or simply go to BlackBerry and download a new DM and install it. Always download, select save and save it to your PC, then install it. It should find your back up to do the device switch for you. 4.7 is the newest DM, but I personally like 4.6. Good luck!
