There are other topics on this detailing each one in detail... do a search. I had the same question at one time and a search solved all my problems.

I can quickly say, sparing details, that EDGE is the best. The difference between capital and lower case means you have the best connection and speed.

Some areas do not support EDGE, so you get GPRS or GSM.

Those links are good starters... you can search and find more answers to your question!

The following info was taken from another post:

Here's a partial breakdown of what you can generally do under some of the different coverage indicators:

EDGE: Can use the phone, send and receive email, PINs, SMS texts, and MMS messages, and use the browser with a high-speed data connection.

GPRS: Can use the phone, send and receive emails, PINs, SMS texts, and MMS messages, and use the browser.

edge/gprs/GSM: Can use the phone, send and receive SMS texts and MMS messages.

SOS: Only emergency calls (dialing '112' will connect you to any existing carrier coverage to complete the call if you're outside your own carrier's coverage area).

    Your welcome...

And, if an admin does read this thread... please make some sort of sticky regarding this question.

I know a lot of people can be confused initially by all the different connection type since most cell phones do not even specify what conneciton you have.

There are a few topics on the issue but you have to sort of scoure for the infomation you are looking for because some of them are cuttered.

If there is already a sticky, then the laugh is on me haha
