OK some emails will not delete on the curve - although they are deleted from my desktop...I've tried to reconcile and such but they won't go - will I just have to wait the 15 days for them to disappear?

Go into that email icon > menu > options > email reconciliation > delete on > prompt

You can open up DM, go to the advanced section, choose the message database and clear it that way.
