The programs I use (Xilisoft Video Converter and Ultra Mobile 3GP Video Converter) both do a good job, but they can't import direct from a DVD (yes, they can convert .vob files, but then you end up with 5-ish pieces of a film). Can anyone recommend a program that will do direct from DVD to .3GP/.MP4?
FairUse Wizard used to work great with I could convert to .xvid or .divx for use on Palm...
Try magic dvd ripper. I've use it and it works great. It gives you a lot of control of the screen size as well as audio and video format and quality. I think you can still download a free trial from their web site. I think it's $34 bucks to. Buy.

DVD Fab 5 can go directly from standard and CSS protected DVDs to mp4 formats. I have not yet ripped into the resolution and encoding for Blackberry, but the builtin Ipod and Zune formats work well, so no reason to believe the Blackberry wouldn't. At the very least, you can convert to AVI and then use Blackberry Video Converter.

Awhile ago I purchased a copy of SlySoft AnyDVD & CloneDVD to make personal copies of DVD's and it works great. They also make a product called CloneDVD mobile. I tried it and it ripped a DVD to 3gp.
However when I used DM Media Manger to copy it to my BB it converted it to mp4 and increased the size from 82mb to 512mb.
I tried tansfering the movie to my BB WITHOUT conversion and it did not play as 3gp.
I use clonedvd mobile. I use it only on those dvd's that I have already made a copy of for my personal collection, and the file size ends up being around 500mb. I use the ipod video format. I tried the avi format, but didnot use dm to transfer it, and it would not play. Is there an advantage to using the DM and converting? If I use the AVI format and move it will the quality be as good?
My link is fixed. Thanks for pointing this out. I keep a bunch of links in a text file and I addidentally deleted the last character of the url - silly me.
Magic DVD ripper is the program I use. It supports about 16 or 17 different formats from iphone to zune which is the format I use. It is fairly inexpensive after paying 34 dollars for it I found a way to get it for free off youtube. It does a great job converting and compressing the file to BB .mp4 format. There is no loss in quality and it shrinks it from 4.7 gig to about .50. Hope this helps. BERRY ON!
I tried using DVDFab and it didn't work. I created an iPod MP4 and a generic AVI and neither worked. What format does the video have to be in for the curve to play it?
