| | Confirm 8310 incompatible with Bell?
Hi guys
I searched but the threads are outdated and Bell has updated their technologies since then and now have SIM cards...
I read this on another thread: Quote:
Bell Mobility's GSM Network:
Bell Canada, together with Telus have recently joined together to launch their own GSM network in Canada to compete with Rogers and its discount brand Fido. This now gives Canadians the option to use GSM powered phones such as Apple's iPhone, GSM BlackBerrys and phones available worldwide via online web sites such as ebay. The pair also recently forced the Rogers network to drop it's claim to be the fastest and most reliable network through court action.
| What's the real deal? I guess this is the reason why my BB isn't getting signal and only SOS...
Thanks,
Elliott

Bell only has HSPA+ and CDMA networks. They do not have the EDGE network that the 8310 uses. The 8310 will work on Rogers, but not on Bell or Telus.

I see, thanks.
Although the 8330 will also work on Bell's network...at least they have it listed on their site: About - Bell Mobility - Blackberry Curve 8330 |

Bell will NOT allow another carriers device on their network, and it must have Bells branding and a CLEAN esn

The GSM phones that use HSPA+ (9000, 9100, 9700, 9780, 9300, 9800) can be unlocked and used on Bell.

I'm guessing it's only due to to the frequences and lack of an EDGE network because I hear that Bell and Rogers use the same frequencies for HSPA+?

Bell does not have the frequencies for the 8310 (EDGE network).
The 8330 is CDMA, so like Fubaz says, you can use it on Bell, provided it is Bell branded with a clean ESN.

I see...so it's only the newer BB's that can run onthe HSPA+ network? And the older ones are CDMA and EDGE?
Just one time for future reference...Bell's only networks are: 3G? HSPA+? And CDMA? And the 8310 is an EDGE only phone?

8330, 8530, and 9670 are CDMA.
8900, 8520 are EDGE.
If you follow the list Fubaz gave, you will know which newer devices will work on Bell if unlocked.
Any CDMA device needs to be Bell branded with clean ESN, as Fubaz stated.

Why do the CDMA phones have to be Bell branded? Why can't they be unlocked from another carrier?
