Mini Moni is very good. I have it on my BB.
It counts your use in bytes but you can change it to kilobytes which I find easier.
You may also be able to check it if you have an online acount with your carrier.

for AT&T, these are the * services (24X7, free)
*BAL# (check balance)
*MIN# (minutes left)
*DATA# (data usage) not very accurate though
*PAY (make a payment)

I think OperaMini has a data counter feature & there's an application that counts data, I think it's called
MiniMoni
.

It should be available on the TMO website, or look in your address it comes with all the numbers loaded to check usage.
