can you change the message light color from red to anything else on the curve? I know there are other colors available on the phone because they flash for various purposes, but can you actually pick a different color for the red message light?

yes, but you have to use 3rd party software to do it.

Mmm, I like that certain 3rd party apps allow you to change the LEDs color. Like for JiveTalk, my LED blinks light blue when I have a new IM.

Try berry buzz. It has some great reviews on the threads here. And I had bbalerts on my curve. Seems odd that it no longer works.

The Handango site shows that BBAlerts is compatible with the 8310. But as stated above, try BerryBuzz.

I use berrybuzz and love it. It doesn't cover some apps like BBMessenger but enough of the ones I use to make it well worth the 6 bucks. You can find it in the crackberry app store.

Get this App: "BeBuzz - Custom LED Colors"
It costs $5.99 but its GREAT. Actually, right now they are offering a 7 day Free trial which is amazing! You can create your OWN color or choose one that they have for basically everything on your blackberry such as: BBM, SMS, MMS, Emails, Incoming Calls, Missed Calls, Tasks, Calander, etc....
You can also choose how many seconds you want in between the flash of LED color.
