I'm currently a Bell Canada user, but Bell doesn't offer the Curve (which I'm planning on getting). Rogers (the primary competitor) offers the Curve, but I'd prefer not to switch carriers.
What do I need to look for to check whether or not Bell will be able to support an unlocked Curve... just that it supports any GSM phones, or something else?
EDIT: Bell (my current provider) does support the 8830 World Edition, if that helps clarify matters any.
Hmm. They do support GSM for roaming, but I can't figure out if there is support for it at home. When I called Bell tech support, they stalled when they found out I didn't have one of their phones. I tried to find out if they could support it, but they just kept repeating that they only support Bell phones.
I know that you can get unlocked phones that aren't "their phones" onto the network, but I don't know where I might go next.
(Editorial: Don't you just love it? You tell them that you want to give them your business of a monthly subscription, and they tell you to shove it if you don't have the right phone.)
They may support analog for roaming ... but NOT GSM. GSM phones use a SIM card and CDMA phones do not, there is NO WAY whatsoever to put a Rogers GSM Curve (unlocked or not) on a Bell network.
GSM / CDMA is the 'language' so to speak, they do not talk to or understand eachother, and the phones are NOT transferable from one network technology to another.
Rogers to AT&T ... sure ... both GSM ... Bell to Telus... Sure ... Both CDMA ... Bell to Rogers and vice versa ... no.
