Default Can I use tools after service disconnect?

I have Verizon wireless service, and recently replaced my Blackberry Curve 8330 with a new phone. I'd like to continue using my blackberry's tools like notepad, voice recorder, calculator, camera etc., but since service was disconnected, have not been able to power it up or (seemingly) even charge it. When plugged in to the charger, the red LED light flashes slowly on and off, but the phone doesn't seem to charge, and it won't boot up. The battery's good and the SIM card is still installed. I had no trouble with the phone or opsys up till I switched to the new phone.
I figured the phone's tools and opsys were stored on internal memory and would still work even after phone service was disconnected.
Is that not the case? Can anyone help with this?

My 8330 without service works fine.

If your 8330 has a simcard slot then that may be the problem. Lol.

I'm sorry-- I don't understand. Are you saying my Curve shouldn't have a SIM card, or that I should replace it, or what?

8330 is CDMA so lacks a simcard.

8300, 8310 and 8320 has simcards.

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work..

Most likely that's the Media Card and not a SIM card.

Try leaving the device on the AC charger overnight. If you still get the flashing LED, you might need to reload the device OS.

But otherwise, those functions listed will work without an active phone service.

Thank you both for your help. It IS an 8330, so MMama must be right: the card my fiancee gave me was just extra media memory, not a SIM card. SO...
I took out the memory card in case that was fouling thing up. No effect.
I took the battery out and hooked the phone up to the charge cord, and that got me a "no battery" icon, but still no power up.
I put in a battery from another Blackberry that I know is good, and that still got me the "no battery" icon. Could that mean the opsys is messed up?
Until I hear from you guys, I'll try recharging overnight and reloading my opsys tomorrow.
Domo Arigato. Sayonara...

Check the contacts where the battery is inserted. Are any of them bent or perhaps jammed inward? And I would recommend trying another charger, as well. I had one that was absolutely hosed, it was killing my battery even though it showed charging.

Another thing you might want to try is cleaning your battery contacts. You can use a pencil eraser.

Similar thing for me. Disconnected from ATT and switched from Blackberry to Droid Charge. They let me power up for a day, and then the Blackberry was dead. Don't know how they do it, but they do it. Still trying to figure out a way to get a voice recording off of it. The backup on the PC is useless though you can get other file types out of it with ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter.
