The camera application starts up and it can take pictures, however, it only captures a black screen. There is nothing covering the lens. The last time I tried using the camera before it broke, I was in the camera application and the screen turned pink/purple/blue in a funky pattern then turned black. Everytime I open the camera application the lens captures nothing but black. I can save pictures and the flash icon always appears (and works when attempting to take a picture). I'm thinking it's a hardware problem? I'm not sure though. Anyone have any clue what I can do to try to get the camera working?

I have 1 year warranty is my phone covered for a problem like this...how should i fix it?

That is not typical behaviour for the Camera, in particular the groovy light show that proceeded the failure.

Camera is contained in a single file that is built into the device OS.

Have you changed the default OS? If not, I would agree that is most likley a hardware issue and should be replaced.
