Question Camera keeps reverting to device memory

I'm not one for posting to forums, though I often scour them (including this one) for answers to my questions.

However, I have a couple issues with my 8330 Curve and thus far my searches have proved fruitless. Therefore I am breaking down and posting up. I am starting two threads, one for each issue, because I believe they are distinct. Hopefully someone knows the answer.

PROBLEM: The camera keeps reverting to device memory. I want to store pix on the media card. I set the option, but it only sticks for a while, then it goes back to device memory. Annoying! I've finally determined that it seems to reset when I connect to my Mac via USB in mass storage mode. At that time, the media card is mounted to my Mac's desktop and apparently no longer available to the Curve. So the camera reverts to device memory. At least I think that's what's happening.

I'd like that option to stick so I don't have to rest it every freakin' time. Anyone have any ideas?

Just for fun, here's one of the first pix I took with the 'berry:
