Heh, I don't think I have heard one person ask if they can turn off the shutter sound simply because they don't like it.

No, there's no way. It's a security feature.

i can understand why you would want it turned off. In the security business if I catch a guard sleeping then I need the proof. However my samsung allowed me to have different sounds so that was cool. But sometimes you have to be a bit sneeky at times.

I agree that there are times that it'd be nice to take a shot with out any sound, during a speech, during an event, during a concert... you don't want your phone drawing attention to YOU and away from the event.

I'm with ATT, and I've found a way around the sound...

1: dial 611 from phone (takes you to ATT's account info line)
-- can probably just do any outgoing call that will not hang up and not make a lot of nosie.
    2: turn volume wayyyyy down
3: switch to camera, with out hanging up
    4: snap pictures.

let me know what you think.

I've tested it on my 8310, and snapped a few good shots during a student speech competition last week for college.

That does work. I just call my voicemail and works like a charm.

That method is listed in the Blackberry FAQ:

There are two known workarounds to silence the shutter click:

    * Make a phone call immediately before you take your picture.

    * Plug in a headset to the BB while you are taking the picture.

Great idea jcauthen, but you don't even need to turn the volume down. I just called my voicemail and then the took a camera while still on the call and there was NO click of the camera. Wonderful!

How would the sound prevent you from catching them sleeping?

It's not like it happens BEFORE the picture is taken.

Sounds more like you're too scared to confront them about it face to face
