I clearly have messed something up! I did have caller ID but now it is gone and I don't know what I did or how to get it back..please help

Caller I'd is done on the handset I thought. It matches the incoming number to contacts. Or are you saying you are not getting the number from the carrier? If no I'd try reloading OS. Otherwise call carrier.

when a call comes in it now only shows the number and no longer the name of the caller so unless I recognize the name....this is a business phone and now it is a real pain. after the call is complete and I look in the call log, it shows the call by the persons name then.

You might try this particularly if you lock your phone or use a password:

Options > Security Options > General Settings > Content Protection to "Disable" and/or Include address book to "No".
