I live in switzerland an no providers here offer the calling through wireless (UMA?), therefore they dont sell it, but i could get one off ebay.

The thing is i really want wireless so i can use it at hotspots/uni, home, etc...

So im wondering if normal wifi surfing will work if i buy a phone that i set up for another provider than i will be using it with? (assuming its unlocked)

Yes... if you buy an 8320 and unlock it for your carrier then the WiFi will work for browsing purposes! It will not work for UMA (meaning no calls or data are transmitted over WiFi)

No UMA but everything will work. I have travelled to europe many times and the BB8820 works pefectly to browse and check mail using wifi; even without a sim card.
