Kind of a newbie here and wanted to know what you do with your Blackberry when flying? Do you turn it completely off like with regular cell phones? If so, how? I have had a couple weeks know and not sure how to turn it off for a flight and want to ensure I do it correctly so I don't lose data or applications

    Thanks!

To turn it off, you hold down the red hang up key, it will tell you its going to turn off.. you dont lose anything. To turn back on, press the same button

You can also just hit manage connection and "Turn All Connections Off" if you want to be able to watch movies or listen to music.

Have no fear, nothing will be lost.

I too just turn off wireless. Then I can still watch movies or play music.

In response to Oakie, your statement is not entirely true. I'm an airline pilot, and if I had a dime for every cell phone conversation I've heard over the radio, I'd be a rich man. The electronics are supposed to be shielded, but interference occasionally slips through. Is the plane going to fall out of the sky because you leave your phone on? No, but it is definitely anoying.

+1, I leave mine on, if it's a really long flight I'll turn it off to save power. Otherwise I like my messages as soon as i'm in range

I'm pretty sure that if a phone could in any way shape or form, harm an airplane, the terrosists would have been there, done that long ago.

I leave mine on as well. The first time was by accident. After nothing bad happened, I said to myself why not.
