Blackberry Curve Keypad problem

Hi, I'm new to BB...

I recently purchased a Blackberry 8300 unlocked it and using it on the MTN network in South Africa...

After approximately 10 days of using the unit, several of the keys stopped responding (including the spacebar) which basically makes the unit useless...

I have taken the unit to a repair center here and they are UNABLE to repair, our 2 networks here only repair their own devices (i.e.: Blackberries sold by them), but the repair centers believe the problem is a 'corrupt VSMbranding module' - has anybody else experienced similar problems or understand what this means to help me have the device repaired?

the keys that stopped working are:

Q W 7 9 G N M and SPACEBAR

I hope it's just not a case of the NUM being on...

Also, have you tried installing the current OS, or a newer one?
