its for telus and ive been reading those step by step tutorials on manually upgrading the os, but i only seen the 4.5.0.160 guide? and saying it was the newest and i tried to search for this new os in the forums and i just dl'd from blackberry.com..... idk if its the newest...but i just wanna use it on my curve 8330 for verizon, but wanted to see if anyone else has upgraded with a verizon curve after deleting the vendor.xml file and had it work successfully without anything from previous os' removed? or whats the new features it has ? if any? or issues fixes? srry if i sound like a "noob", but ya... :I

It is the .160 OS, .253 is the package version not the application version.

4.5.0.160 is not a good OS to load on a Verizon Curve unless you make some modifications to it first (hybrid).

Why do you say .160 isn't a good OS to run on a Verizon Curve? I currently have a Verizon Curve 8330 and am running OS v4.5.0.160 and haven't noticed any issues at all. In fact I felt like everything on my BlackBerry was running just fine. But I am very curious as to why you made that statement...

He made that statement because most VZW users that post here have had a lot of issues with .160.

jleeblanch, the problems are well documented in the .160 thread. The major problems are: chirping during calls in earpiece, profiles crashes/lost, and network indicator cycling between 1XEV, 1X, 1xev, and 1x.

Now that you mention the chirping during calls, I have noticed that somewhat but it doesn't happen every time. But I have NOT had any problems with my Profiles and my Network Indicator hasn't done any cycling. Overall I thought it was pretty good. To answer the .77 to .160 jump, I didn't go from one to the other. I went from .77 to Telus Mobility's prior OS Release (but I don't offhand remember what it is) and haven't had any complaints I guess.

The hybrid, link above, will take care of the chirping. All you do is substitute a few files from .131 (download link in thread) into the .160 OS already installed on your PC, then reload the OS on your BB.

It has been a long time since i upgraded. I don't even know if there have been versions in between. I have a curve with Verizon. Should I not be downloading this .160 version. Is there a better one for me to use? And what is the latest desktop mgr I should download? I have 4.2 installed.

Sorry, but I have been out of the crackberry loop for a while, and I forgot how to ride the bike, so to speak.

    Thanks

Sorry, Misty, must've missed your previous post. I see in your sig that you did upgrade to 4.5.0.77

If you want to use the new BBM 5 then you will need to upgrade again to at least Sprint's .131

    You can download it here:

Use the upgrade/downgrade procedure in my sig below for instructions on how to remove the vendor.xml file prior to loading it on your BB.

Thanks. What are the diffs between .131 and .160. IOW, what are the known verizon/curve issues in .131 that would make the hybrid another option.

If you are on Verizon, DO NOT install 160 straight.
    Use the hybrid.

160 gives you more files free memory, faster running, but a horrific squelch during calls that I could not stand. You should use the hybrid of 160/131 in which the radio files from 131 (the most stable OS in my opinion) are used. No squelch, no RF cycling, no lost profiles, faster speed, more files free and no speakerphone blast (131 solved that).

I'm on Verizon and the hybrid has made my Curve a masterpiece! No probs whatsoever and I got BBM 5 installed too! Beautiful.
