Right now I believe it will recognize up to an 8gb microSD card. Supposedly with 4.5 or 4.6 it will be limited to 32gb

The expandability is based on the OS version not necessarily the phone model

    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2GB microSD
    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4GB microSDHC
    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4GB microSDHC
    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8GB microSDHC
    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8GB microSDHC
    * BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 Up to 32GB microSDHC - for the Bold et al
    * Verizon 4.2.2.196 OS supports up to 8GB source JeffH

Since you posed your question in terms of expandability, you may be thinking a microSD card can expand your 8330's memory. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Card storage does not expand the device memory space. Instead, it is used like a USB drive and provides storage space, not execution space, for storing ringtones, videos, music, and pictures. You can store other files on one using mass storage mode, but you typically cannot view those files without 3rd party software.

BB customer service told me they were going to be issuing new software to accommodate increased internal memory capacity (if I understood them right). I had called because my 8330 Curve wasn't recognizing the 8gb card I had installed. Was told that was too much capacity for the existing software but to watch for an update. Anyone heard anything about this?

I put an 8GB micro SDHC card on my friends 8330 with no issue at all. He was running OS 4.3.0.127. The rep might have been misinformed.

The size media card you can use is determined by your OS version.
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 Up to 16 GB
Verizon 4.2.2.196 OS supports up to 8GB

This table summarizes the Pete6's results. For the full story, read his microSD Cards thread that's linked in my sig.

Your 8330 should be capable of using an 8GB card with no difficulty.
