Battery life advice, Help!

My phone is just over a year and a half and my battery will not hold a charge for more than 6 hours. I mainly use it for texting and FB. If my son tries to watch a video on it it kills the battery in seconds. Im technologically ignorant so any advice from removing factory installed apps to cleaning deleting pictures/ videos (less than 15 each saved to the media card)

When I went to the verizon store they sold me a portable battery charger which is great but doesnt solve anything.

If the tips suggested don't work then perhaps there is an issue with the battery.
