When the 'Dial From Home Screen' option is disable it gives you the ability to select default applications by pressing one key (for example: 'a' for address book, 'm' for messages, 'n' for blackberry messenger etc)
Is there a way to either change what the hotkeys are set to or use one of the unused letters to launch a third party application?
