What OS version do you have installed on your 8830? Options / About, the 3rd line.

Yes, that's the OS version. However, there was never an OS 4.3 released for the 8830. Do you have an 8830 or an 8330?

An 8330 running OS 4.3 should be able to use up to an 8GB card. Since you bought it used, it's possible the device was used on an corporate account and has an IT policy that disables the Media card. Go to Options / Status and type BUYR. You won't see the letters, but when you finish, you'll see 2-3 additional lines added to the status screen. If one of them is IT Policy: Enabled, that could be the source of the problem. You'll need to remove it, using this procedure, created by Forums Moderator Pete6: Removing an IT Policy from a BlackBerry phone.

You will probably also want to upgrade to OS 4.5. But take care of any IT policy first.
